Bizarre New Game Has You Playing as a Shark Dentist

From developer Alice Games, Shark Dentist is an upcoming horror game that takes animal caring to a bizarre new level. Players can already add Shark Dentist to their Wishlist on Steam, but no release date has been confirmed yet.

Similar to their presence in movies, sharks are a recurring theme in video games. Particularly in action and horror games, these predator animals can add an extra layer of thrill to the gameplay experience. In many cases, games centered around sharks have players confront the deadly animal for survival. However, indie developer and publisher Alice Games’ next horror project, Shark Dentist, aims to put a spin on the shark games category by making players oversee their dental hygiene.

For fans of games that emphasize player choice, here are some of the best immsersive sim horror titles to check out.

Shark Dentist has players perform dental procedures on sharks in an eerie underground clinic. Some of the dental work shown in the trailer involves cleaning teeth and healing infections using realistic tools like scalpels, syringes, circular saws, mirrors, and drills. Players must carefully multitask between operating on the shark and managing their pain level by administering anesthesia, maintaining their oxygen levels, and monitoring their pulse. The animal is initially asleep and hanging from the ceiling, but one wrong move could quickly end in tragedy. If the shark wakes up because of enough stress or pain, they will come for the player and eat them. Shark Dentist is described as a horror roguelike title where every playthrough generates random dental issues, tools, and debuffs.

Random events will also occur during a Shark Dentist run, such as equipment malfunctions, sudden pain spikes, and others. Players will have to react quickly to these situations and find a strategy. The game also showcases some quite realistic graphics, which build into the tense atmosphere of working against the clock. According to the developers, fans of classic horror films like Jaws, The Meg, or Saw will find Shark Dentist particularly appealing. Players can currently add Shark Dentist to their Wishlist on Steam, but Alice Games hasn’t given an official release window yet.

Unlike other medical simulator games where patients are human and can communicate their needs, Shark Dentist intends to challenge the player with a non-verbal, deadly creature to take care of. It will be interesting to see how Shark Dentist approaches the premise, but fans will have to wait until developer Alice Games shares further information about the title.
