New “Chronological” Update Now Available for ‘The Last of Us Part II Remastered’

With The Last of Us Part II Remastered getting a Steam release earlier this year, and on the heels of creator Neil Druckmann exiting the HBO adaptation ahead of the upcoming third season, Naughty Dog has released a new “Chronological” update for the game. As the name entails, the new update now lets players experience the story of The Last of Us Part II chronologically.

Those of you who have played the game know the game’s story is told non-linearly, played out across flashbacks and present-day storylines. According to Naughty Dog, the new update allows players to gain “even deeper insight into Part II‘s narrative,” explaining that the update allows players to see the parallels between Ellie and Abby’s crisscrossing journeys.

The Chronological update also includes a few goodies for those players who jump into this “new, transformative approach” to the story. Alongside new trophies and achievements, completing the game this way will also unlock two new skins: Joel dressed as Nathan Drake and Tommy as Sam Drake (both from the Uncharted series), which can be used in Part II Remastered‘s No Return mode.

The new update for The Last of Us Part II Remastered is available today on both PlayStation 5 (via Patch 2.1.0) and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store (via Patch 1.5), which also includes “a host of additional bug fixes and performance improvements.”
