Ruben Amorim has endured a nightmare last 24 hours, but there may be some good news on the horizon for the under-fire Manchester United head coach.
The Portuguese head coach is left reeling after seeing his side lose at Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup second-round on penalties.
Amorim didn’t hold back on his squad’s abject showing post-match, however he may be getting what he wants from those players he deemed surplus to requirements.
And that is because one of his ‘bomb squad’ members looks set to leave Old Trafford.
According to reports in the Netherlands, the left back is set to join LaLiga outfit Elche on a season-long loan.
Voetbal International claim that Malacia has chosen the Spanish side as his next destination after holding talks on Monday.

It appears that Elche and Lille were his two destination, but the latter did so without manager Bruno Genesio present which worked against them.
In contrast, Elche’s willing patience and the promise of regular first-team in football has decided Malacia’s thinking.
Aside from those two clubs, Voetbal International add that Malacia’s suitors included Roma, Besiktas, Porto as well as an offer from Saudi Arabia that was put on hold.
Malacia’s impending exit means it will be his second loan spell in two seasons after spending the second half of 2024-25 at PSV Eindhoven, where he made 12 appearances across all competitions.
Malacia, joined United in 2022 as Erik ten Hag’s first signing following the manager’s arrival at Old Trafford.
The full-back moved from Feyenoord but has struggled to establish himself in the Premier League.
Malacia spent last term on loan at PSV Eindhoven, making 12 appearances in all competitions
After making 39 appearances in his debut season, Malacia missed the entire 2023-24 campaign due to injury.
He returned to action last season and featured in eight matches before being loaned to PSV in the January window.
As well as Malacia; Jadon Sancho, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho remain part of the ‘bomb squad’ yet to leave. Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona on a season-long loan last month.
