With Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 being a smash hit, it should come as no surprise that the studio is already looking at expanding the game’s universe. However, while many refer to it as “Expedition 33,” the franchise name is actually Clair Obscur, with the game’s director even clarifying this.
He also let fans know that more games are on the way for the franchise, which is something most of us were expecting given its tremendous success both critically, and commercially.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Is Not the End of the Franchise, Just One of the Stories
In a recent interview with MrMattyPlays (spotted by TheGamer), studio director Guillaume Broche took the opportunity to answer some burning questions and discuss what’s next for Sandfall Interactive. To the surprise of no one, it seems more Clair Obscur titles are in the works, as the director says that the franchise isn’t over, though it’s too soon to elaborate beyond that.
“Clair Obscur is the franchise name,” said Broche. “Expedition 33 is one of the stories that we want to tell in this franchise. Exactly what it will look like and what the concept will be is still too soon to announce, but what is sure is that this is not the end of the Clair Obscur franchise.”
No surprises there, considering the commercial success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has brought to Sandfall Interactive, not just in sales but also in reviews, I think it was safe to assume that more games in the franchise would follow.
The bigger question, though, is if it will continue the story that Expedition 33 established, or be like how the Final Fantasy series is, where each game is a whole new entry, and not connected to each other in any way.
Could we be seeing more stories from the previous expeditions, or will we get something entirely new? There are many exciting possibilities, and I look forward to seeing where Sandfall Interactive goes next.
