PlayStation Plus subscribers’ free Essential games for September 2025 are Psychonauts 2, Stardew Valley, and Viewfinder, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced Wednesday. Players can download the trio of games beginning Sept. 2.
Psychonauts 2 is Double Fine’s 2021 platforming adventure game — and one of our favorite games of that year. In Polygon’s review of the game, in which you explore psyches as Psychonaut Raz, we praised it as “a Freudian adventure full of warmth, compassion, and humor.” Psychonauts 2 is available on PlayStation 4.
Stardew Valley, from solo dev Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone, is a role-playing game about moving to a small rural town and starting a farm. That description just scratches the surface, as Barone has updated the game with major new features since its release in 2016. (And he’s still working on it.) Stardew Valley is available on PlayStation 4.
Viewfinder is a first-person puzzle game that tasks you with placing photographs over existing geography to modify your terrain, allowing you to reach the stage’s exit. In our review of the 2023 game, we called Viewfinder “puzzle game heaven” and said it “leaves you wanting more.” Viewfinder is available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
September 2025’s PS Plus Essential games will be available for download through Oct. 6.
PS Plus subscribers can still pick up August 2025’s PlayStation Plus Essential games — Lies of P, DayZ, and My Hero One’s Justice 2 — through Sept. 1.
PlayStation Plus Essential is the lowest tier of Sony’s subscription game service. It offers online multiplayer access, a monthly assortment of free PS4 and PS5 games, cloud storage, and discounts on PlayStation Store purchases. PlayStation Plus Essential costs $79.99 annually, $24.99 for a three-month subscription, or $9.99 monthly.
