Como owner Mirwan Suwarso has denied claims that the Serie A club have turned down a huge offer from Tottenham Hotspur for Nico Paz.
On Monday, it was reported that Tottenham had a €70m (£60.7m) offer rejected by Como for Paz, who was said to be keen on remaining at the Serie A club for one more season.
It was subsequently revealed that Real Madrid played a big role in Como rejecting Tottenham’s offer for Paz as Los Blancos had the right to match any accepted bid for the midfielder, as well as a buy-back clause valid for next summer.
That update came from Fabrizio Romano, who went on to explain that the La Liga giants had told the Italian side that they would compensate them in the future for rejecting the North London club’s offers.
Como owner denies receiving Tottenham offer for Nico Paz
Como owner Mirwan Suwarso has now poured cold water over these rumours, denying that any offer has arrived for the Argentina international this summer.
He also admitted that there were fears that the midfielder would return to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, but declared that the player has decided to stay.
When asked about the speculation over Paz, Suwarso told Corriere della Sera (as relayed by Sport Witness): “It’s not true that we rejected the offer. No one formalises an offer knowing that then we should send them to Real Madrid, who have the right to match.
“There was a moment when we feared Nico might return to Madrid: he grew up in Real Madrid’s youth academy and dreams of playing at the Bernabeu one day. Luckily, he stayed.”
When asked about Tottenham’s offer, Paz has said that he is focused on helping Como reach the next level.
Como boss Cesc Fabregas has also insisted that he is not worried about losing Paz in the final few days of the transfer window.
The noises coming out of the Serie A club thus clearly indicate that the player is heading nowhere, which comes as a blow to Tottenham Hotspur.
