Clair Obscur still has a story to tell, with its director stating: “This is not the end of the Clair Obscur franchise”

One of the big surprises of 2025 was the release of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, one of the games in the running for GOTY this year. And according to a recent interview with the game’s creative director, Guillaume Broche, this won’t be the last we see of the successful title developed by Sandfall.

In an interview with YouTuber MrMattyPlays, Broche discussed the process of turning Clair Obscur into a franchise. Although nothing is definitive yet and not much has been revealed about the game’s future plans, it is clear that this will not be the last time we see this name.

Clair Obscur is the franchise name,” says Broche. “Expedition 33 is one of the stories that we want to tell in this franchise. Exactly what it will look like and what the concept will be is still too soon to announce, but what is sure is that this is not the end of the Clair Obscur franchise.

What might lie ahead for Clair Obscur?

What we will see in terms of Clair Obscur remains to be seen, since this isn’t the first time someone on the studio has talked about the possibilities of a new game. The quickest release for now would be some kind of DLC for Expedition 33. For its part, the game has an interesting lore surrounding this world, including past expeditions. For his part, Broche also mentions that he wants to forget about when he “wrote sequels,” so this may also give us some clues as to what we won’t see next in this franchise.

In our opinion of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, our very own Vladimir Arteaga wrote that the game “undoubtedly transcends everything that makes it up—the story, the visuals, its biomes, the incredible soundtrack. It is undoubtedly a strong contender for Game of the Year and a title that will be remembered for its originality and masterful execution.”
