Two weeks can be a long time in football, and that is borne out by the predictions of Tottenham’s Opta Super Computer, which sees Spurs shoot up the Premier League table.
Coming into the season, not many neutrals and pundits considered Tottenham Hotspur as favourites to finish in the top six.
That is understandable given that the Lilywhites finished 17th last season with 22 league defeats and that a new manager had walked through the door.
In fact, just before the start of the new season, Opta’s Supercomputer predicted that Spurs would finish in 14th place, collecting an estimated 47.92 points.
Tottenham shoot up the predicted Premier League table
However, the Thomas Frank era started positively for the Lilywhites with a 3-0 win over Burnley at home, and after that result, Opta predicted that Spurs would finish 11th with  50.08 points.
Tottenham have followed that up with a statement performance against Manchester City, emerging deserved 2-0 winners.
While winning at the Etihad Stadium is not a new feeling for Spurs, the amount of defensive control they exhibited left many impressed, with the away side managing to keep Pep Guardiola’s men at arm’s length for the majority of the encounter.
That performance has seen Opta once again revise their predictions, with the SuperComputer now predicting that Tottenham will finish 8th with 55.48 points.
A crucial week of transfers is coming for Spurs
While there have been some very encouraging signs at the start of the season, there are question marks over the strength of Tottenham’s squad.
Thomas Frank has set his eyes on challenging on all four fronts, but in order to do that, the club need at least two top-class signings to arrive through the door.
Reports indicate that Spurs are still trying to sign a number 10, a winger and a centre-back, but with just over five days left, that looks like a hard ask.
