It’s unfortunate that games sometimes launch in such a broken state that they’re forced to offer refunds. It is the right thing to do, but a game shouldn’t launch in such a state in the first place. While we’ve seen it happen recently with MindsEye and the Warhammer 40K: Space Marine remaster, neither of these are as high-profile as the broken launch of Cyberpunk 2077, which forced PlayStation to take the game off the store and offer refunds.

Since this issue has become more prevalent in the industry, PlayStation has simplified the refund system of the PS Store. Unless you’ve previously refunded a game before, chances are you have no idea how to do so, and will probably have to look it up. It’s not as intuitive as the refund system of Amazon, for example. Thankfully, the system is now a lot simpler.

How To Refund PlayStation Games

As pointed out by Yahoo Tech, the refund system on the PS Store has been streamlined in the face of so many broken games requiring refunds. Here’s how the new system works.

PlayStation refunds can only be claimed on the PS Store website or the PS app.

  1. Go to the PS Store website or the PS app.
  2. Click on the ‘Menu’ option on the top-right of the screen.
  3. Click on ‘Transaction History’ to view your recent purchases.
  4. Choose the purchase in question and click on “Request Refund”.

All refunds must be requested within 14 days of purchase of the product, and must be downloaded.

This new, simpler process will make availing of refunds much easier. However, refunds are processed on a case-by-case basis, so don’t expect to receive a confirmed refund if you simply don’t like a game. Requesting refunds on video games has notoriously been a complicated process. This new system makes it more intuitive.

While it wasn’t as blown up as the rough launch Cyberpunk 2077 had, MindsEye faced similar issues at launch. The game was directed by Grand Theft Auto’s Leslie Benzies, and quickly plummeted to Overwhelmingly Negative reviews on Steam due to major performance issues. The devs also put out an apology for the state of the game, along with a promise to fix the issues.
