Little by little, video games are taking over television in a very different way. And after Prime Video’s success with Season 1 of Fallout, it’s time for one of its next projects, a live-action series of Mass Effect, to begin production.
According to details published in Production Weekly, the series is set to begin filming in “Q4 2026.” That’s still a little over a year away, and rightly so, as details about this series inspired by BioWare’s work remain in the early stages for now.
Here’s everything we know about the Mass Effect series on Prime Video
The first details about the Mass Effect series came to light in November 2024, when it was revealed that Amazon MGM Studios had hired Daniel Casey as scriptwriter and executive producer. He would be joined by Karim Zreik, who worked on series such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and The Punisher as executive producer. Also, Michael Gamble, head of Mass Effect at BioWare, would be overseeing production alongside Ari Arad, a well-known producer at Marvel Studios. Recently, in June 2025, it was revealed that Doug Jung, who participated as a screenwriter on Star Trek Beyond and Mindhunter, would be the showrunner for the series.
As for details of the story, the initial synopsis sounds like a very general version of what happened in the first game. “In Mass Effect, Commander Shepard, an elite human soldier, must stop a rogue Spectre agent, Saren, who has allied with a deadly race of synthetic-organic machines known as the Reapers. As Shepard uncovers a vast galactic conspiracy, they assemble a diverse team of aliens and humans aboard the starship Normandy. Together, they race against time to prevent Saren from unleashing the Reapers and wiping out all advanced civilizations.”
Considering that one of the main pillars of Mass Effect is each player’s decision-making for their story, it will be interesting to see what is in store for this series. Will Shepard be male or female? What will the romances be like? Which companions will they save? Or will they play it safe and ultimately take us through events outside the games? We still have plenty of time to find out.
