A sandwich shop described as a “healing place” for customers due to its community spirit has closed its doors.
Kirsty McGrath says her “heart is broken” that she is having to shut Kirsty’s Krusts, which she opened in High Street, Herne Bay, in July 2022.

She says the decision is “completely out of my hands” and patrons have expressed their dismay at the news.
The shop, nestled between Coral and New Hong Kong Chinese takeaway, became popular across the seaside town for its sandwiches, wraps and paninis.
It also offered sweet treats such as flapjacks and cherry slices, with covers for about 10 people.
However, Ms McGrath confirmed the venue’s doors shut for the final time on Saturday.
She said: “This decision is completely out of my hands.

“I have loved every minute of the past three years and my heart is broken that I have to leave my little shop.
“[It] has become somewhat of a community hub where people have come in and made it their own.
“I have made so many friends and met so many beautiful people.
“I want to thank every single one of you for your support, kindness and love. I wouldn’t have got this far without you all.”
The decision has been met with sadness by several regulars, who describe the sandwich shop as a focal point of Herne Bay.

Writing on social media, Nemone Head said: “I’m really very sorry to hear this.
“Your sandwiches were raved about at my birthday party. Wishing you the very best for whatever the future holds.”
Kris Searle added: “This is not ok! Your sandwich shop has become more than a place to eat and get great hugs – it’s been a safe place and a place to meet friends and have a laugh.
“It’s been very healing for a lot of us. We will miss you the most. What a success and memory you have made.”
