This Twitch star built a gaming controller powered entirely by her thoughts

In a feat that sounds straight out of sci-fi, Twitch star Perri Karyal has turned her brainwaves into a fully functioning gaming controller.

With an EEG (electroencephalogram) headset connected directly to her scalp, she can play games like Armored Core, Elden Ring, and more, completely hands-free.

Rather than physical buttons or joysticks, Karyal trains her mind to produce distinct brainwave patterns, which her custom software translates into game commands.

It’s an impressive blend of neuroscience, programming, and sheer determination.

The Twitch star took a long time to master this

The magic behind this setup comes from an EEG headset, a device that sits on your head and ‘listens’ to your brain activity.

Normally, this kind of technology is used in hospitals to monitor brain health, but Perri has repurposed it for gaming.

Here’s how it works: when she thinks of certain images or mental exercises, the headset picks up on that brain activity.

Her custom software then turns those signals into game commands.

So, if she imagines the right thing, her character might jump, dodge, or attack, without needing to touch a gaming controller.

At first, the system could only handle a couple of basic moves, and she was stuck playing relatively simple games.

But after hours of training and fine-tuning, Perri Karyal figured out how to expand the setup so she could actually play through entire games.

In fact, she’s even managed to beat notoriously difficult titles like Elden Ring using nothing but her mind.

Could turn into something much bigger

Recently, the Twitch star unveiled her most advanced version yet: a fully hands-free gaming controller that allows her to play Armored Core without touching a keyboard, mouse, or gamepad.

Sure, it’s a cool party trick, but this experiment could hint at something much bigger.

Imagine video games in the future where you don’t need controllers at all, or where players with physical disabilities can enjoy the same gameplay experience as everyone else.

This type of brain-controlled gaming, sometimes called ‘neurogaming,’ could also one day combine with VR or eye-tracking to make gaming more immersive than ever before.

For now, Perri Karyal’s brain-powered controller is a one-of-a-kind project.

But it proves that gaming is only limited by your imagination.

In fact, watching her stream feels like a sneak peek at where gaming could be heading in the years to come.

After all, who wouldn’t want to say:

“I beat that boss without using my hands?”
