A leaker with an impressively accurate track record has teased when to expect the next Nintendo Direct, and it’s surprisingly soon.
Following the launch of the Switch 2, the rollout of Nintendo Direct presentations has been unusual in comparison to previous years.
While we typically get a general showcase every June, this year we’ve had everything else besides – with presentations instead dedicated to Donkey Kong Bananza, a third party Partner Showcase, an Indie World, and a 45-minute whopper for Kirby Air Riders.
The unusual cadence has raised anticipation for when the next ‘proper’ Nintendo Direct will be, and based on one insider, it’s set to arrive within the next few weeks.
According to YouTuber SwitchForce on X the ‘general Nintendo Direct we’ve all been waiting for is earlier than you’d expect’ and ‘on a day you wouldn’t anticipate’.
That comment was made last week but it was so vague it got mostly ignored, but now the same YouTuber has posted a tease suggesting the next Nintendo Direct will take place on September 12.
‘Nintendo tried to phone in an emergency about the missing Switch 2 games, but they accidentally dialled 912,’ they cryptically wrote on X.

While the ‘912’ could be interpreted in a few ways, it seems to refer to September 12 in American date notation. That’s a Friday, which is unusual as Nintendo Directs usually take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays.
So why should we pay attention to this particular rumourmonger? SwitchForce has been very accurate when it comes to Nintendo presentations recently, having accurately outed the Partner Showcase and the Indie World ahead of time – and despite other more experienced insiders knowing nothing about them.
While it’s still worth taking this information with a pinch of salt (apart from anything showcases like this often get postponed or cancelled at short notice), Nintendo does usually run a Direct in September in some form.
The only outlier was last year, when it skipped the month altogether, but with a newly released console, it’s likely the company will want to draw attention to what’s coming later this year and beyond.
Switchforce seems to believe it’s a general Direct, but there’s every chance a September presentation, like recent showcases, will be dedicated to one singular title. The obvious contender is the still un-dated Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, but there’s also Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment, which doesn’t have a specific release date either – although it’s down only as ‘winter’, which could mean 2026.
However, a general Direct might make sense to tee up what’s coming in 2026. We still don’t know what Nintendo has planned for next year in terms of major first party titles, outside of Splatoon Raiders (although that doesn’t have any release window) – so there’s a big blank slate which needs to be filled with something to get excited about.
As for what we do know, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is set to launch across Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 16, followed by Switch 2 exclusive Kirby Air Riders on November 20.
That’s more likely to be discussed in a Pokémon Presents but what could be a focus for the September Direct is the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. The game turns 40 on September 13, which suddenly makes a Direct the day before seem very suspicious.
What Nintendo might be doing for the anniversary is a mystery though, with leaks of a new compilation of older games having been largely debunked.
