Indie developer Springloaded (Let’s Build a Zoo) are busy working on their next simulation: Let’s Build a Dungeon. It’s a bit of a misnomer, as you aren’t just building a dungeon, but an entire Massively Multiplayer RPG video game, using your game development studio. And cute pixel art. It’s a game-within-a-game, and it’s coming soon to PC and Xbox.
The most recent trailer for Let’s Build a Dungeon details the four game modes.
Campaign mode puts players in the role of a new game studio designing the next big MMORPG. They’ll need to manage their profits and workers, ban cheaters, and keep the ongoing, live service game fun and fresh.
Just Build mode and Creative mode sound similar, removing the developer sim part of the equation and focusing on building a virtual game. Just Build Mode uses a deck-building system to select cards, quests, and assets, and supports up to four player co-op. Creative Mode is more of an open sandbox, complete with mod tools to create new characters and cutscenes.
Dungeoneering Mode is where you can download other virtual games created by users, a la Super Mario Maker.
Let’s Build a Dungeon recently celebrated hitting over 140,000 wishlists on Steam. A free demo is also available on Steam. A release date has not yet been announced.
