Joe Cole has given his opinion on how Daniel Levy will respond to Tottenham’s win at the Etihad Stadium and whether we can expect Spurs to make any late moves in the transfer window.
Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Manchester City was much needed to change the feeling of doom and gloom surrounding the fan base after Arsenal hijacked Spurs’ move for Eberechi Eze last week.
In fact, Tottenham fans were chanting for Daniel Levy to leave at the Etihad Stadium, with many feeling that the Spurs chairman is about to let down another new manager.
Thomas Frank has insisted that the Tottenham hierarchy are continuing to work on new signings, but Joe Cole is not too sure if the Dane will get any more top-class players before the September 1 deadline.
Joe Cole does not expect Tottenham to make any big signings
Reports indicate that Tottenham are still looking to sign a number ten, a winger and a centre-back before the window slams shut.
However, Cole believes that Levy will see the win over City as evidence that the squad is in a good place and will decide against making another big-money acquisition like Savinho this summer.
When asked if he expects Tottenham Hotspur to do much business before the deadline, the former Chelsea man told TNT Sports (23/08/25): “I can’t see there being much, much more happening. I think Daniel Levy is in a great position. He hasn’t spent a lot of money, but he seems to have got two great results with the squad moving.
“After today, I think the Savinho deal is less likely. It could possibly happen, but it depends – because we don’t know what’s happening with Financial Fair Play.
“I don’t think he’ll go and get someone who’s already of age and ready to go. I think there’ll be a few young players coming in to bolster the squad.
“We also don’t know the needs of certain buying and selling clubs in terms of what they have to do. But as you can see there, Daniel Levy will be saying, ‘I’m pretty set with what I’ve got, maybe just one young player’.”
Tottenham need at least two more signings
Various reliable sources, including Alasdair Gold, have revealed that Tottenham are prioritising signing an attacking midfielder and a winger before the transfer deadline.
That is the bare minimum that Spurs fans will expect, and the supporters will be extremely angry if those two signings are delivered.
At this point, it seems like the only way Levy can appease the Tottenham supporters is by concluding a move for Savinho, who is reportedly keen on making a late switch to N17.
