Thomas Frank has revealed what Richarlison told him as soon as he walked through the door at Tottenham this summer and has opened up on his experience working with the Brazilian so far.
While there has been a lot of consternation among Spurs fans about the lack of signings so far this summer, we are already seeing several players elevate their game under the new regime.
The best example of that so far is Richarlison, who was named the Premier League Player of the Week in matchday one, and has now followed that up with another impressive display at the Etihad.
Reports indicate that Tottenham were open to cashing in on Richarlison at the start of the summer, but Thomas Frank has now revealed something very interesting about the striker’s stance on his future.
Thomas Frank reveals Richarlison was keen to remain at Tottenham
The Tottenham head coach has now shared that the Brazilian made it clear to him on the first day of pre-season that he wants to remain at the club.
The Dane admitted that he is delighted with the former Everton man’s commitment, but confessed that he and his coaching staff have had to be wary of his fitness issues.
When asked about Richarlison, Frank said (via Football.London): “Day one, he came in and knocked on my door and said ‘I want to stay’. I said, ‘good, I like you, I think you’re a good player, perfect, let’s crack on’. He’s been working very hard, very committed, gym, on the pitch, he has trained every session. There was one game we took him out of because of the injury history.
“We know we need to be very aware of that to build him, thin layers, one step at a time, taking good decisions, do our best to try to take good decisions, but I see a very committed player.”
Frank makes an admission about lifting the mood of Spurs fans
The 2-0 win over Manchester City has helped transform the mood of the Tottenham fans, who were fuming earlier this week at the club’s failure to get a deal for Eberechi Eze over the line.
However, the Sours boss is not getting drawn into the negativity, insisting that he is very excited to work with the group of players he has.
When asked about the importance of a win to get rid of the doom and gloom surrounding the club, Frank responded: “You’re speaking about the fans, I guess. I don’t read anything of that so I don’t know, but of course you guys are telling me. I guess that’s part of it.
“I think how we can lift the mood is good performances and winning on the pitch. That’s the key thing. Of course we all want as good an achievement and a squad as possible. As I’ve said many times, I think we’ve got a good exciting squad. Let’s see what will happen in the next eight/nine days.”
