Concerns are mounting that a stretch of green space at a Kent beauty spot has attracted the attention of developers.
Walkers and sightseers can often be seen enjoying the picturesque vista at Botany Bay, Cliftonville, overlooking the English Channel.

But fears have been cast over the future of the two-acre slender parcel of land after it appeared up for auction this month.
Nadine Lamberton, a regular visitor who lives nearby, stressed she was “disheartened” to see the space floated with a £1,000 guide price.
“It may look insignificant on paper, but for us it represents a shared place of community, belonging, and simple seaside enjoyment,” she said.
“On warm days, picnics are often enjoyed there, and it has long been part of the fabric of life along our coast.
“More importantly, this small space plays a big role in our daily lives. We use this path all the time as it’s a safe route to walk with the kids.

“It’s just very frustrating that a piece of land so small that we use to get to the beach or walk the dogs is being sold.”
The 40-year-old said she believes the area is too narrow for development and fears the chalk cliff could crumble.
Meanwhile, Auction House London’s website highlights the land’s advantageous location, situated next to a residential road and close to shops.
It highlights Botany Bay Beach being within easy reach, with transport links provided by Margate rail station.
But the plot’s shape is somewhat unusual.

Although it extends more than 600m along the Thanet Coast, its width occupies just a fraction of the space between The Ridings and Prince’s Walk, resulting in a slender area.
A spokesperson for the firm told KentOnline the land has “attracted early interest”.
“While we understand the plot is not within a designated conservation area, we understand that nearby areas are protected.
“Any future development would need full due diligence, including planning and environmental checks.
“We welcome community engagement and encourage any interested parties to consult with the local authority.”

The auction is set to take place next month.
