Heung-min Son scores first goal since leaving Tottenham, and it’s a free-kick worldie

Heung-min Son netted his first goal since leaving Tottenham for LAFC on Saturday, and in typical Son fashion, he opened his account with a world-class strike.

Spurs fans are still coming to terms with the South Korean’s departure, and it is fair to say that he will always be connected to Tottenham, given what he achieved during his decade at the club.

The forward continues to keep an eye on his former club’s results, with Son expressing his support to his Tottenham teammates after they lost on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup.

The 33-year-old has already set a record since his move to the MLS, with Son’s LAFC shirt becoming the best-selling jersey of any athlete across the globe.

Tottenham legend Heung-min Son creates magic for LAFC

The forward has shown with his performances so far that he has not just been signed for commercial reasons, having been one of LAFC’s best players in his first few games for the club.

After coming close on a couple of occasions, the Tottenham legend opened his scoring for his new side yesterday with an outstanding free kick that flew into the top corner.

It was the sort of strike that the forward made a habit of producing during his time in North London, and there is no doubt that we will see a lot more of that over the coming months and years in Los Angeles.

Should Son have taken more free-kicks at Spurs?

While Son’s ball-striking ability with both feet was among the best in the world, he was never seen as a dead-ball specialist at Tottenham.

The South Korean was rarely ever on free-kick duty in North London, and only one of his 173 goals for Spurs came via a free-kick.

However, the forward clearly shows a great side-foot technique here to get the ball up and down. Perhaps successive Spurs managers missed a trick by not trusting the 33-year-old with direct free-kicks.
