Your answer can come from Opening Night Live, but it doesn’t have to, because there were a lot of reveals this week.
This was an exciting week of gaming reveals. Most of them came from Gamescom, but there were quite a few of them that came from beyond the big show in Germany. While we’re appreciative of Geoff Keighley’s efforts, rather than simply ask the Shacknews staff what their favorite Opening Night Live reveal was, we’re opening the floor to favorite reveal from this week as a whole. The answers are numerous.
Question: What was your favorite Gamescom 2025 week announcement?
The Rogue Prince of Persia goes 1.0 – Ozzie Mejia, Senior Parkour… er… Guy
I’ve been somebody who has been gradually adventuring with the latest Prince of Persia since it first stepped into Steam Early Access. I’ve been waiting patiently for the full game to be ready to roll and the wait ended on Wednesday morning.
I’m still living and dying with the Prince’s latest journey. Review isn’t ready just yet, but stay tuned. I’ll have my thoughts on this one up on Shacknews next week.
Ninja Gaiden 4 Yakumo Trailer – TJ Denzer, Dreams of Izuna Drops
I’ve been pretty happy with 2025 being a breakout year for classic ninjas, and it’s not even over. Ninja Gaiden 4 is still on the way, and at Gamescom, we learned more about one of its playable characters, Yakumo of the Raven Clan. Yakumo uses blood arts to form his arsenal, and while Ryu Hayabusa is still there, Yakumo provides a very different moveset that looks stylish in ways completely different from Ryu. I was already excited for Ninja Gaiden 4. You didn’t have to twist my arm, but Yakumo looks incredibly fun and it just makes me want to play all the more.
Starman – Asif Khan, Shacknews Chatty Grim Reaper
I just want to support Masahiro Sakurai, so I will use this entry to remind everyone that Starman is very cute. I am looking forward to playing Kirby Air Riders on my Nintendo Switch 2 entertainment system.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui – Bill Lavoy, Shackmaps Overlord
There’s no denying the popularity of Black Myth: Wukong and the gaming world went nuts when Black Myth: Zhong Kui was announced at Opening Night Live. I’m a sucker for the hype train so I’m happy to take my seat and enjoy the build up to the next offering from Game Science.
Denshattack! – Dennis White Jr., likes games with part of his name in the title
I saw a few things that caught my eye this week, like the Sekiro anime announcement and Project Spectrum, but when it comes to a game that just might scratch an itch, I have to give Denshattack the win. I love the style aesthetic with vibrant colors and a vibe that’s reminiscent of Jet Set Radio which also feels intentional. I’m definitely down to do some rail riding and hopefully be able to relax while also playing frantically next Spring.
I will say that I hope that the game is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, but this is a small dev team and they also seem to be getting love from Xbox, so it might be a shoe-in for the ROG Ally first.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight – Donovan Erskine, Reserve Bat-family member

I’m in that age range where the LEGO video games are incredibly nostalgic for me, and the Batman series is among the best in the franchise. The new LEGO Batman looks pretty ambitious, incorporating storylines from multiple Batman movies and stories. It looks like the developers are taking cues from the Arkham games with the new combat system and verticality, which should make the gameplay far more compelling than in those old games that I hold dearly. TT Games has been on a hot streak, and I have no reason to doubt them when it comes to LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.
Bubsy 4D – Steve Tyminski, What could possibly go wrong?

What was my favorite Gamescom 2025 week announcement? There are a few directions I could take this. Seeing what Kirby Air Riders is about was nice. I don’t usually like when presentations show most of the game in a video but I think in racing games like this, it works. Seeing most of the core gameplay allows people to make a decision if they want to buy it. The Pokemon Company showed off a new Mega Pokemon, Victreebel. I remember using Victreebel in one of my first Pokemon Blue adventures. Mega Victreebel might be goofy looking but Mega Pokemon can be crazy looking like Metagross or they can be silly like Slowbro. Hearing Elden Ring being playable on Switch 2 was something I wanted to hear about. That being said, it sounds like it doesn’t run very well, so fingers crossed the finished project will look and play better.
However, I’m taking my answer in a different direction and that direction is Bubsy 4D. If you had a new Bubsy game on your bingo card, you’re lying. No one saw a new Bubsy game coming out, let alone, a new 3D platformer. There were a lot of games at Gamescom that caught my attention but I think Bubsy stole the show for me.
