For those that happen to have an HP Victus 16-r1000 gaming laptop or considering one with the 14th Gen Intel Core CPUs and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 graphics, the Linux support is now slightly better off thanks to the HP-WMI driver adding fan and thermal profile support for the Victus 16-r1000 series.

The HP WMI driver has already supported the Victus 16-s1000 series laptops while merged yesterday for Linux 6.17 is enabling the Victus 16-r1000 series too. It was just a new DMI board name needing to be added to the HP WMI driver and thus was safe for merging this week as part of the “fixes” to Linux 6.17.

The DMI board name for the Victus 16 r1000 series is 8C99 while the already supported s1000 series identifies as 8C9C. With this addition for the HP Victus 16-r1000, the fan control and thermal profile handling should now be in working order for this gaming laptop under Linux.

The support patch was upstreamed to Linux 6.17 Git on Friday as part of this week’s platform-drivers-x86 fixes.
