Thomas Frank has spoken ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League clash with Manchester City and he has made it clear how he feels about players who do not want to join the club.
It is no secret that Eberechi Eze was expected to sign for Tottenham Hotspur. Indeed, Fabrizio Romano gave Spurs an 85 per cent chance of signing Eze from Crystal Palace.
What followed this can only be described as a calamity. Tottenham lost out to Arsenal on Eze, with the player himself deciding he wanted to join the Gunners. This came as a shock because Eze already told his England teammates that he expected to join Spurs.
As a result, Thomas Frank has been left without a number 10. This has frustrated Tottenham supporters, as the dynamic Dane wanted two new attacking midfielders this summer.
Thomas Frank indirectly slams Eberechi Eze for rejecting Tottenham
Thomas Frank has been brutally honest in his press conference ahead of Tottenham’s first Premier League fixture of the season. He has blasted players who do not want to be part of his team and it feels like his blunt statement could be targeting Eze.
Tottenham Hotspur report that Frank said: “I don’t speak about specific players, unless they are at our fantastic club… There have been a lot of rumours, a lot of times there’s nothing in it. That’s part of the business.
“There will be a lot of links, to generalise that, to be very, very clear, I don’t want any players that don’t want to come to the club. They don’t want to come to the club, to wear this fantastic badge, we don’t want them here.”
Eze is not the only player Spurs have been linked with who would prefer to join a different team. Tottenham have also made contact with Xavi Simons this summer, but the 22-year-old is said to have his heart set on joining Chelsea.
Spurs should be an attractive choice after their Europa League triumph
Few could blame a player for rejecting a move to Tottenham midway through last season. Their league form was plummeting and it looked like Ange Postecoglou’s team could miss out on Europe next season.
However, Spurs are now able to offer their new signings Champions League football and the opportunity to play in a more stable and balanced team.
Eze’s decision to join a club who have failed to win a trophy in five years has to be respected, but Frank is spot on. If he does not want to play for Tottenham, we do not want him at our club!
