Nashik: Police are investigating the death of an 18-year-old mechanical engineering student from a farming family at Devlane village in the Yeola taluka of Nashik district. The student, who had been missing since Aug 19, was found dead in a village well near his home on Thursday.According to inspector Sandeep Mandlik of the Yeola police, preliminary inquiry and statements from relatives are being used to verify claims that the student was addicted to online mobile games. The student’s body was found floating in the well by a villager, who then alerted other residents and the police. The body was then retrieved and taken to a hospital.“The postmortem revealed drowning as the cause of death. We have registered a case of accidental death for now.
The final outcome will depend upon what the family members have to say. They are currently in a state of shock,” the officer said.On being asked if there was any suicide note that the deceased wrote, the officer said, “The relatives have told us that they found some note, purportedly written by him, but they are yet to hand it over to us.”Commenting on whether the deceased was addicted to any online gaming app, the officer said, “So far, the relatives have said that he always preferred to be lonely and not talk to anybody. He liked to play on mobile phones for long hours and was engaged on it for most of the day. Talking with the parents and immediate family members will bring out the truth. We will take the mobile used by the deceased into custody and verify all angles before making any statement.
