As Gamescom 2025 continues, Supermassive Games revealed a new look at the gameplay in the upcoming Directive 8020.
While we have to wait a bit longer for Directive 8020, Supermassive Games continues to whet our appetites by revealing 13 minutes of gameplay, set in the opening prologue of the story.
In this gameplay video, we see two characters, Carter and Simms, who are tasked with repairing damage to their spaceship. However, things quickly go sideways as can be seen in the video below.
Even though this is just from the prologue of the game, it feels absolutely terrifying. From the remote setting of space to Carter being stalked by the enemy, everything feels geared to make the player feel afraid. And for my part, it is absolutely working!
Seeing the footage play out, I can see where the Turning Points (that let the player rewind to a past decision) can be useful. There have been many times in past Dark Pictures games where I wished I could immediately revisit a certain decision, and it will be interesting to see what this can change. On the other hand, I’m on the fence about the stealth sections but I’ll wait until the full release before passing judgement on how they work in the game.
Directive 8020 is set to release in the first part of 2026. What do you think of the gameplay footage?
