Pennsylvania gaming revenue up 11.4% in July as iGaming surges past $228m

The state’s online casinos kept the market moving forward, even as sports betting slowed.

Pennsylvania’s casinos and sportsbooks pulled in $557.7m in July, according to figures from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB). That’s an 11.4% rise compared to last year, with the main driver once again being iGaming.

The numbers underline a trend that’s been building for months: players are shifting more of their spend online, and the properties leading in that space are quickly separating themselves from the rest.

Hollywood Casino leads the pack

No other property has matched its dominance online.

At the top, Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course posted $103.4m in revenue. A huge slice of that came from iGaming, which alone delivered $87.8m, up 37.2% from July 2024.

For Hollywood, the results are part of a wider run of strong months. It has become the benchmark operator for digital play, consistently outpacing rivals in both volume and growth rate.

The rest of the field isn’t standing still, though. Valley Forge Casino Resort brought in $88.8m, a 19.2% lift, with online revenue climbing to $61.2m, up more than a third. Rivers Casino Philadelphia also pushed higher, reaching $57.5m, with online contributing $37.8m, up 26.6%.

Slots show steady but uneven growth

Traditional play is still important, but results vary by property.

Slot machines across the state generated $208.5m in July, a 2.1% rise compared with the same month last year. The leader was Parx Casino, booking $30.9m, although the gain was minimal at just $300,000 year-on-year.

Other properties had mixed results. Wind Creek Bethlehem saw its slot revenue fall 3.8% to $23m, while Rivers Casino Pittsburgh gained ground, climbing 2.7% to $22.6m.

The story here is consistency rather than spectacular growth. Land-based slots continue to anchor revenue, but the headline numbers now come from iGaming.

Sports betting dips after a hot June

A small drop, but overall betting levels remain strong.

Sports wagering revenue stood at $40.6m, down 0.5% compared with last July. The handle, the total amount bet, came in at $412.5m.

The two standout performers were Valley Forge Casino, which produced $15.5m from $140.9m in wagers, and Hollywood Casino at the Meadows, which reported $11.3m from $112.3m in betting activity.

The dip is modest, especially given that June had been unusually strong, with sports betting revenue up more than 70% year-on-year. The seasonal sports calendar always plays a role, and July tends to be slower compared to the high-activity months ahead in autumn.

Regulators stay active

The PGCB balanced revenue reporting with compliance updates.

Beyond the financial results, the PGCB kept a close eye on operator behaviour. In late June, the regulator placed 15 people on its involuntary exclusion list, including three adults who had left minors unattended while gambling. A further 18 individuals saw their gambling privileges revoked.

The board also renewed licences for Presque Isles Downs and Casino and Hollywood Casino Morgantown, decisions that ensure continuity for both venues. These updates underline the regulator’s twin role: reporting record revenues while enforcing responsibility across the sector.

Momentum continues into summer

Two strong months in a row suggest another record year could be coming.

The July results build on June’s performance, when the state generated $544.7m, up 15.4% year-on-year. That month, iGaming revenue had already crossed the $212m mark, while sports betting surged to $51.2m.

With July topping those numbers, Pennsylvania is on pace for another record-breaking year. The pattern is clear: online gaming is pulling the industry forward, while slots remain steady and sports betting fluctuates with the calendar.

For now, Hollywood Casino, Valley Forge, and Rivers Philadelphia are setting the tone. The next question is whether the rest of the market can keep pace as the state heads into the busier months of the sporting year.
