Bitmap Bureau, Mattel, and Limited Run Games announced a new He-Man video game at Gamescom 2025. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction is the hilariously long title of a retro-inspired, 2D beat ’em up coming to PC and consoles in 2026.
Dragon Pearl of Destruction stars playable heroes He-Man, Teela, Man-At-Arms, and more against the evil forces of Eternia, led by Skeletor. Through 12 levels players battle beat up the bad guys and call upon special abilities, including He-Man’s powerful mount and companion, Battle Cat.
The gameplay looks quite similar to other retro beat ’em ups such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredders’ Revenge, and Streets of Rage 4 — and those are great games!
With so many 1980s cartoons and comics building into mass media empires (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers, My Little Pony), it’s a wonder that He-Man never quite made the leap to global dominance from its cheesy roots. That being said, a beat ’em up is definitely the right way to go for an official He-Man video game.
I would also recommend the semi-recent Netflix sequel series, Masters of the Universe: Revelation (and its follow-up, Revolution), which features an incredible cast, including Mark Hamill as Skeletor!
“Dragon Pearl of Destruction is one of the exciting ways we’re bringing Mattel’s brands to life through digital games,” said Erika Winterholler, Head of Digital Games Development, Mattel. “It’s a love letter to those who grew up with He-Man, combining nostalgic visuals with fast-paced, modern gameplay. Our goal is to honor the franchise’s legacy while introducing it to a new generation of players. The team at Limited Run Games shares that passion, and we hope the game connects with both lifelong fans and newcomers alike.”
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction is due out next year, on Steam PC, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox.
