Per the new legislation, it is now a punishable offense to promote, advertise, or even facilitate financial transactions for real money games.

Punishment For Real Money Based Online Games

The penalties for real money games are as follows:

  1. Offering online money gaming: up to 3 years imprisonment and/or Rs 1 crore fine.

  2. Advertising money games: up to 2 years imprisonment and/or Rs 50 lakh fine.

  3. Financial transactions related to money games: up to 3 years imprisonment and/or Rs 1 crore fine.

  4. Repeat offenses: 3-5 years imprisonment and fines up to Rs 2 crore.

National Authority

Gaming domain in India will now be regulated by a government-designated authority at the national level.
