Games Workshop has partnered up with Deep Silver and KING Art Games to announce Dawn of War IV! The Blood Ravens are back.
Last night at Gamescom there was a lot of big video game news. But the one piece of news that jumped out for me was the Dawn of War IV Announcement. We’re going back to the roots of this series with base-building and mass battles in RTS fashion!
“You’ll take command of four unique Warhammer 40,000 factions – including the Adeptus Mechanicus, making their Dawn of War debut – alongside the iconic Blood Ravens Space Marines, the Orks, and the Necrons.”
Dawn of War IV – The Battle For Kronus
The setting of this new entry to the series see the fighting take place on Kronus. The four factions mentioned above are on the planet and it sounds like quite the battle! In fact, this promises to be the largest campaign for the Dawn of War ever.
“Fight through 70+ campaign missions solo or with a friend as you experience a story written by Black Library author John French, immerse yourself in endlessly replayable modes including Last Stand and Skirmish, and take the fight to the world with intense multiplayer combat.”
Uh…YES PLEASE! I’m trying not to get too hyped about this but they are certainly checking the right boxes. That sounds like a really long campaign and the fact that you can play with a friend is neat. It’s been a while but I remember something similar for Dawn of War II and I really enjoyed playing it with a buddy. I’m also glad to know that as a series they are moving back to the base building and mass combat RTS style of gameplay closer to the first Dawn of War.
I have fond memories of playing multiplayer LAN games of DoW and the absolute mayhem we would get up to. And that was …a long time ago. These days I won’t be lugging around my entire PC setup to a LAN party with friends. Now we can now just do that from our own respective homes online. I’m looking forward to that.
War Is Dawning In 2026
We don’t have an exact release date for Dawn of War IV yet. But it will be available on Steam in 2026. If you want to stay on top of the news for this one you can sign up for their newsletter here. Now then, I’ve just got to brush up on my RTS skills. It’s been a minute. Thankfully, I’ve got until sometime in 2026 to prepare.
