The revelation that TT Games’ next project really is a Lego Batman game might have been the biggest and best reveal from Gamescom Opening Night Live. There are still a lot more details about Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight to be revealed, though, and less than 24 hours after its big moment, Warner Bros. already has us worried that it plans on charging $80 for its next Lego game.

Warner Bros. and TT haven’t been asked about the potential price of Legacy of the Dark Knight, but for some reason, the studios decided to ask themselves even though they don’t have an answer, at least not one that they’re ready to share. Spotted by Stephen Totilo, Legacy of the Dark Knight’s FAQ page includes a question about the Lego Batman game’s price, but it doesn’t have a definitive answer.

Warner Bros. Asks Itself How Much Legacy Of The Dark Knight Will Cost, Then Refuses To Answer

Not only does it not have a definitive answer, but the answer given to the question about its price feels like it’s in relation to a completely different question. Rather than confirming how much Legacy of the Dark Knight will cost, or even just noting that it hasn’t landed on a price yet, the FAQ’s answer rambles on about pre-orders not being available yet, but points fans to platforms on which they can now wishlist the game.

WB’s reluctance to commit to a price has people worried that the Lego Batman game will be the studio’s first $80 game. Several big players in video games have been trying to navigate how they can join Nintendo on the $80 plateau. Mario Kart World costs $80, and now that someone has made the jump, everyone else wants to follow suit, even if they’re not brave enough to say it out loud.

Xbox tried to make the leap, revealing that The Outer Worlds 2 would cost $80. It quickly reversed that decision, presumably because it went down like a lead balloon and pre-order sales weren’t doing too hot. Now we don’t know when Xbox will be making the $80 jump, as Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s price is confirmed, and the standard edition will cost $70.

Nothing has managed to follow in Mario Kart World‘s $80 footsteps so far, not even its Switch 2 follow-up, Donkey Kong Bananza, with Nintendo sticking to $70 for the DK game. If any studio thinks it can be the next one to move up to $80, though, it’s Warner Bros. Lego Batman is tied to big IPs, appeals to gamers of all ages, and is using the same formula as The Skywalker Saga, which sold millions. I’m not convinced Lego Batman should be an $80 game, but WB might be.
