Gary Lineker says Tottenham have ‘a real player’ who ‘intrigues’ him after standout display

Gary Lineker claims one Tottenham player’s talent has never been in doubt and admitted that he is excited to see what he can achieve under Thomas Frank this season.

The striker has had a flurry of injuries since his big-money move to Tottenham Hotspur three years ago, which have prevented him from fulfilling his potential at the club.

Richarlison has often been a lightning rod for intense criticism and has been written off by many pundits.

However, the Brazilian has shown across pre-season and in Tottenham’s first two games of the season that he is more than good enough to offer serious competition to Dominic Solanke.

Gary Lineker is excited by what Richarlison can do at Tottenham this season

Lineker admits that he has always been intrigued by Richarlison and his talent, suggesting that the striker sometimes gets low on confidence when things are not going his way.

Following his brilliant brace against Burnley, the pundit suggested that Thomas Frank would have a top player on his hands if the 28-year-old can stay injury-free.

The former Tottenham striker said on The Rest is Football podcast: “I’ll tell you who intrigues me, Richarlison.

“I look at him sometimes, and you think, he’s got so much talent, and then on another occasion, nothing seems to happen, and he gets a bit down on himself, possibly. I don’t know. I’m just making assumptions.

“Injuries have played a big part, and I think sometimes fans as well, it’s easy to go, oh, he’s always injured. But as a footballer, the last thing in the world you want is to be injured. There’s nothing more frustrating. But if he can stay fit and sharp, then they’ve got a real player. I mean, the second finish was just super.”

Richarlison’s recent numbers for Spurs are excellent

Some Spurs fans were pleasantly surprised to learn that the former Everton man’s goal output has been superb recently whenever he starts matches.

Richarlison has scored 13 goals in his last 16 league starts for Tottenham, including nine in his last nine starts.

He certainly knows where the back of the net is, and it is fair to say that Solanke may not walk into the starting eleven as soon as he is fit, given how well the Brazilian is now playing.
