Plans for 20-home estate among district’s latest planning applications

A 20-home estate with a shop is among the latest round of planning applications submitted to Thanet District Council.

Pentland Homes has submitted proposals for the estate of two-storey houses south of Ramsgate Road in Sarre.

The development would be made up of 14 four-bedroom properties, four with two bedrooms, one three-bedroom and one one-bedroom, if approved.

The application also includes a single-storey community facility – most likely to be used as a convenience store – along with access from Ramsgate Road, parking, cycle and bin stores and landscaping.

Another scheme has been lodged for a clifftop plot off North Foreland Avenue in Broadstairs.

It sets out proposals for a three-storey, five-bedroom mansion with a basement level, plus a two-storey annexe containing an enclosed swimming pool.

A more modest proposal in Sarre has also been submitted: a self-build, single-storey two-bedroom bungalow behind Sarre House on Canterbury Road, complete with dedicated parking and garden space.

In Ramsgate and Margate, several significant tree-work applications are now live.

At the Montefiore Synagogue and Mausoleum in Ramsgate, sycamore trees are earmarked for crown reductions, alongside the removal of dead specimens and a younger tree unlikely to reach maturity.

Over in Margate, Nash Court Farm has applied to fell six sycamores, six ash trees and one holly, plus carry out crown reductions to other specimens, and trim a lime tree with an overhanging limb.

Meanwhile, approvals are being sought in Broadstairs and Margate for home adaptations.

In Broadstairs, there are bids for a garage extension at Crescent Road and a rooftop terrace conversion on Stone Road.

In Margate, there’s also an application to add smoke-attenuation equipment to a property on Marine Drive.

The Newington Community Centre in Princess Margaret Avenue, Ramsgate, is seeking sign-off on materials (including cladding, roof tiles, windows and glazing) for its approved side and rear extension, which will also include air-source heat pumps and an access ramp.

Another sizeable Ramsgate project on King Street is at the planning permission stage for its construction management plan.

The redevelopment includes a three-storey rear extension to provide four new homes, renovation of existing flats and houses, and new staircases created through the demolition of garages and a ground-floor flat.

All applications are awaiting a decision and remain open for public comment.
