Geoff Keighley Seemingly Teases HK: Silksong by Dressing as a Clown

If you’ve watched your fair share of The Game Awards, no matter your taste in video games, you’ve probably asked yourself, “Are people in charge of this are all clowns?” on more than one occasion. That notion has now stepped out of the noosphere and into reality as a recognizable red spongy clown nose, which Geoff Keighley, host of The Game Awards, recently put on himself to promote the impending gamescom Opening Night Live event.

Jokes and teasing aside, the photo Keighley shared wasn’t him admitting to being a 21st-century jester, but rather a nod to the now-dying meme about Hollow Knight: Silksong fans being clowns – a meme born from the game’s half-a-decade existence in a state of an apparent limbo, with little to no news about the title surfacing since its announcement on February 14, 2019, until April 2, 2025, when it was finally confirmed for release later this year.

Over in the comments, many gamers immediately caught the reference and found it chucklesome, with some replying with their own memes – especially ones poking fun at another long-suffering crowd of clowns fans: those still waiting for an official PC port of Bloodborne. A few sharp-eyed fans also managed to dig up a post Keighley made exactly a year earlier, where he had alluded to the very same meme:

And while the host of gamescom ONL attracting attention to the show by literally donning the role of a clown might imply that no Silksong news is coming and that the meme isn’t as dead as it seems, it’s worth noting that attendees on the ground at gamescom have already spotted the long-awaited title at both the Xbox and Nintendo booths, hinting not only that we’ll be hearing more about the new Hollow Knight installment, but also that some may get the chance to try it out firsthand.

However, even if no new trailers, demos, or gameplay showcases show up, and the videos above turn out to be an elaborate hoax, there’s no need to dust off your rainbow wig and oversized shoes just yet, as the game itself is still expected to launch by Christmas 2025 at the latest, according to Team Cherry’s Marketing and Publishing Manager, Matthew Griffin.
