Not to be too critical of one of our contributors, but the Bubsy series is not a particularly well-loved one.
It has been the butt of jokes for literal decades. But Bubsy persists. And now he has a new video game. And it’s made by Atari. (Two curses for the price of one. Package deal.)
Unlike the particularly unloved Bubsy 3D, Bubsy 4D looks like the product of people who had time to work on it. Which I guess is a good thing. (But why devote so much time to Bubsy?)
When asked for comment, Bubsy had this to say:
Hey, howdy, ho there, folks! It’s your old pal Bubsy checking in from the video game void. It’s been some time since I crawled out of my favorite box to visit the world at large. Things haven’t been going so well. I lost my fame and fell (further) into obscurity, but at least I’m not AI-generated. And most of my games are being made available on modern consoles—in physical form, no less.
Yup; things are lookin’ up for ol’ Bubsers. Last time I was here, everything looked a little different. Did you do some construction? Re-design a few things? Well, so did we! That’s right; your ol’ pal Bubsy is back in a new 4-D game!
That’s four Dee’s. One-Two-Tree-Fyor. Count ‘em. It’s a fancy, technologically superior version of the Bubsy games you know and love. What could possibly go wrong?
Get ready for some floaty action and rigid controls as we take you into the inner sanctum of the new life of yours truly.
So yeah, in case you’re wondering, Bubsy is still Bubsy. Someday, we are going to have Bubsy write a story explaining how he survived the polygon wars.
