Liberty City, Vice City, and Los Santos are fictional representations of New York, Miami, and Los Angeles. These are some of the cities that appear in the Grand Theft Auto series, and although they are based on famous cities, they do not use their real names. Rockstar Games has followed this approach from the first game to GTA 6, but why?
The first idea that may come to mind is that cities have copyright protection, so to speak. However, only individual buildings or some private property are protected in this way.
Rockstar Games has chosen to set GTA in fictional locations, but with elements that clearly identify specific cities. They haven’t explained why, but it’s reasonable to assume that this decision was made for creative reasons. This allows them to create worlds with greater freedom. There are recognizable places, yes, but there’s also room to build something different.
Optimism about the release date
If there are no further delays, GTA 6 will be released on May 26, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, is optimistic that there will be no further changes to the release date.
On the other hand, the executive did not want to claim victory just yet. Although he is convinced that the game will be exceptional, he prefers to wait until it is released to see whether or not it becomes a success. And the price? Will it go up to $100? Rockstar will announce it in due course, Zelnick assured.
