Arteta reveals how Gyokeres call convinced him he was dream striker
By Adrian Bishop
Mikel Arteta has revealed how a telephone call convinced him that Viktor Gyokeres was the right striker for Arsenal.
The Gunners had initially spoken to Benjamin Sesko at Red Bull Leipzig, now of Sunday’s opponents Manchester United. He was expensive at £73m, but 22.
Gyokeres was £63.5m but older at 27. The concern, as they processed their data analysis, was whether the Swede would be value for money at that age.

United have arrived
Ruben Amorim and his team have arrived at Old Trafford ahead of what looks set to be a stern test in the form of the Gunners.
Mikel Arteta will be desperate to finally take his team to that next step and asset themselves as the Premier League’s top dogs.
Both teams have no shortage of desire to win this match, and in less than 45 minutes the action will be underway.

United target Brentford defender
By Adrian Bishop
Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham are all targeting a move for Brentford captain Nathan Collins.
Daily Mail Sport understands that interest in the 24-year-old centre-half is surging – although the Bees may well be highly reluctant to sell.
Irishman Collins was given the captain’s armband earlier this month and promptly celebrated by scoring the only goal of the game in a friendly victory against neighbours QPR.

The fans are here!
By Adrian Bishop
There’s just something about the start of a new Premier League season.
Regardles of what has transpired over the preceding 12 months, a new campaign offers fans the chance to look ahead with optimism.
With a clean slate, these supporters will be hoping their side take the first step in the right direction by securing all three points this afternoon.
Arsenal team news
By Adrian Bishop
As predicted, and unlike his contemporary in the opposing dugout, Mikel Arteta will entrust his new centre forward with leading the line on his Premier League debut.
Also set to make his first competitive appearance for the Gunners is fellow summer arrival Martin Zubimendi, who joins Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard in midfield.
Man United team news
Well… Ruben Amorim has opted for the more defensive-minded Diogo Dalot at right wing-back and has also preferred Luke Shaw to Ayden Heaven, who started the final pre-season game here against Fiorentina.
I have to say I am surprised he’s not gone with Benjamin Sesko from the off. This team suffers without the presence of a proper No 9 and that is far away from what Mason Mount is when playing as a false 9.
Gyokeres’ Premier League debut
By Adrian Bishop
One man who is expected to be involved today is Arsenal’s headline summer signing Viktor Gyokeres.
The north London club spent £64million to sign the Swedish striker from Sporting Lisbon after he enjoyed back-to-back prolific campaigns with the Primeira Liga side.
Despite spending four years at Brighton, today’s clash at Old Trafford will likely mark Gyokeres’ debut in the top flight of English football.
There’d certainly be no better place for him to make a good first impression…
‘Optimism is incredibly high here’
As is always the case before a ball is kicked, optimism is incredibly high here.
Soured slightly when fans clocked the arrival of Avram Glazer… who was even stopped for a selfie by one fan in attendance here today. But Ruben Amorim has vowed his side will be better than they were last season and that starts today versus Arsenal.
Both Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund have been left out in some big calls. Full team news to follow…
Man United star DROPPED from squad
By Adrian Bishop
Some transfer news to start our afternoon off with a bang.
Reports suggest that a familiar face will play not any part in today’s game after being told he is no longer part of Ruben Amorim’s plans.
The Portuguese has been adamant about reshaping his team ahead of his first full season at the helm at Old Trafford and it appears that one star will have to continue his career elsewhere.
