Lords of the Fallen 2 Is CI Games’ “Empire Strikes Back.” Sequel to Be Darker Than the First

In Lords of the Fallen, CI Games successfully rebooted the Souls-like title into something its initial 2014 release never managed to achieve, and its publisher is aiming for more in the sequel that’s planned for release in 2026.

Not only does CI Games have high hopes for Lords of the Fallen 2, but they refer to it as their “Empire Strikes Back,” which is no small claim to make.

Lords of the Fallen 2 to Be a Darker Game and Will Raise the Stakes

Lords of the Fallen Update 1.058

In an exclusive interview with MP1st, we asked CI Games a bunch of questions about the franchise, and of course, the upcoming sequel that’s been announced to be in development.

We asked CI Games how the sequel is shaping up and whether it’s still on track for release next year.

Answering the question was David Valjalo, Creative Portfolio Strategist at CI Games, who compared the sequel to Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, or for Gen Z people, Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight,” which implies what they have cooking now will be better than the first entry, something which, both films managed to do.

“We’re right on track and in the thick of it now. The sequel is looking spectacular. I have the privilege of seeing all the juicy behind the scenes bits and pieces – art, animation, combat – and each day there’s something that just stops me in my tracks. It’s bloody, bold, brave… it’s a true sequel – it improves on the previous game but carries its spirit forward. It’s also a darker game, tonally, with a really unique setting and even higher stakes than the last game, if you can believe that. It’s our Empire Strikes Back. Or for Gen Z I suppose it’s their Dark Knight,” Valjalo answered.

While there’s no release date set for Lords of the Fallen 2, we do know that it will appear at Gamescom this coming week. Chances are, we’ll see a reveal trailer and maybe some gameplay as well.

CI Games has said that the sequel will feature a more “Westernized storytelling,”  which should be a good thing, right? Expec the sequel to be published by Epic Games (no Steam release at launch, sorry!), and will be available on consoles and PC.
