Tottenham player ratings from Super Cup final vs Paris Saint-Germain – 6/10 for defender

Tottenham were beaten 4-3 on penalties by PSG in the UEFA Super Cup final after a 2-2 draw in normal time, missing out on back-to-back European titles just three months after lifting the Europa League – and our player ratings are in.

Tottenham player ratings vs Paris Saint-Germain

Guglielmo Vicario – After a quiet opening forty-five minutes, Vicario was called into action a few times in the second half, and he was up to the task; however, a few late strikes from Kang-in and Ramos saw the Italian’s clean sheet wiped out. 6.

Pedro Porro – The Spaniard remained a constant threat for Tottenham, and this time, it was his dead-ball delivery that led to Tottenham’s second goal of the game. 7.

Cristian Romero – An impressive first half, where his passing and composure were outstanding, was followed by a well-taken goal from a set piece, after he was left unmarked at the back post. 8.

Micky Van de Ven – The Dutchman opened the scoring late in the first half, netting the first goal of the Thomas Frank era. In the second period, Van de Ven was brave and committed, putting his body on the line to make crucial blocks, even from offside chances, to prevent PSG from threatening. However, the centre-back in the penalty shoot-out failed to convert. 6.

Kevin Danso – The Austrian could have made it 3-0 after meeting Kudus’ well-floated delivery from a set piece in the second half, but his header found only the side-netting. 7.

Djed Spence – The Englishman kept Kvicha and Hakimi quiet on Tottenham’s left flank, using his pace and strength to great effect. However, he was slow to track Dembele’s overlapping run for PSG’s second. 6.

Joao Palhinha – A competitive debut to be proud of for the Portuguese international, who shielded the back four superbly and provided an attacking threat from set pieces. His parried shot directly led to Van de Ven’s opener. 8.

Rodrigo Bentancur – The Uruguayan, like the rest of his teammates, covered an immense amount of ground. He kept Tottenham ticking in midfield, showing composure when receiving the ball with his back to goal and helping his side maintain possession. 8.

Pape Matar Sarr – The Senegalese midfielder impressed throughout, pressing relentlessly and nicking possession in advanced areas. His energy and work rate unsettled the PSG back line all game. 8.

Mohammed Kudus – Known for his flair and dribbling, the Ghanaian delivered a complete performance in this tie. He drove at the PSG defence with purpose and was diligent in his pressing when possession was lost. 8.

Richarlison – The Brazilian carried his impressive first-half form into the second, drawing an early save from the PSG goalkeeper shortly after the restart. His hold-up play and link-up work as the focal point in attack were once again excellent. 7.

Substitutes

Archie Gray – Replaced debutant Joao Palhinha, who is still building full match fitness. Gray slotted into the holding midfield role, but could have done better with closing down Kang-in, who scored PSG’s only goal from range. 6.

Dominic Solanke – Introduced for Richarlison after missing a few pre-season matches prior to this Super Cup tie. It was a like-for-like switch, with Solanke operating as the number nine, although he did not have a clear chance to threaten PSG. 6.

Mathys Tel – Replaced Mohammed Kudus and slotted right in as the ten right behind Solanke for the final 10 minutes. Missed from the spot in the penalty shootout. N/A.

Lucas Bergvall – The Swede replaced Sarr in the final five minutes. N/A.
