MONTGOMERY, Ill. (WLS) — A west suburban family is grieving the loss of a 10-year old boy, who died from injuries he suffered when a car hit him, while crossing a busy road.
The crash happened on Route 30 near Horseman Trail in Montgomery last Thursday. By Saturday, the boy had died.

The boy’s parents said their son brought joy to everyone who knew him.
“The last thing I remember my son telling me was, ‘Mom, I love you so much.’ And gave me a big hug,” mother Andrea Lopez said.
It doesn’t feel real for Lopez. Her 10-year old son, Vincente Pabon, is gone after his injuries were too severe to overcome.
“It was just horrible. I never in my entire world would imagine to see my son in the condition that I see him in,” Lopez said.
Lopez believed her son was playing video games in another room with his older brother. Instead, he had left the house that faces Route 30, apparently crossing the busy several lane roadway to buy a snack at a nearby gas station.
“He was just two or three minutes away from his house. He was just a couple seconds away from crossing,” David Pabon said.
According to Montgomery police, a vehicle traveling west hit the boy just before 8 p.m. He was initially taken to Rush Copley Hospital, and then airlifted to Loyola, where he died from his injuries early Saturday morning.
“Your son is supposed to bury you, not you bury your son,” David Pabon said.
Pabon is reconciling with the reality of his loss, but finding some comfort thinking about the mark Vincente made on loved ones.
“He was lovable, enjoyable, real caring. He loved his Sonic the Hedgehog,” Pabon said.
His mom says he was a content creator, and enjoyed making YouTube videos. He also loved playing sports with his friends.
“Oh, my God, brought so much joy to me on a daily basis, I just look forward every morning to waking up to his face, oh, my God,” Lopez said.
Montgomery police say the driver of the vehicle that hit Pabon stayed on the scene and was cooperative with investigators. Right now, it’s not clear if the driver will face any charges.
Meanwhile, Pabon’s family is in the midst of building a growing memorial and making arrangements for his service.
A GoFundMe has been established by Pabon’s family.
