Jamie Donley is the latest Tottenham youngster to leave the club on loan, with the attacking midfielder set to test himself in the Championship after dominating League One last season.
Out of all of Tottenham’s loanees last season, one can argue that it was Donley who caught the eye of Spurs fans the most.
After a tough start to his spell at Leyton Orient, he made the number ten role his own, spearheading their promotion push, with the O’s ultimately coming up short in the playoff final.
Donley was named Orient’s Player of the Year last season, and the midfielder has been involved in pre-season under Thomas Frank, travelling to the Far East along with the squad, although he did not get any minutes against Arsenal or Newcastle.
Jamie Donley is expected to swap Tottenham for Stoke City
Tottenham insider, John Wenham, revealed a couple of days ago that Donley had already agreed a move to a Championship club, with the announcement from Spurs expected soon.
That has now been confirmed by Alasdair Gold, who has asserted that the 20-year-old has agreed to join Stoke City on a season-long loan.
The attacking midfielder will play alongside a familiar face at the Bet365 Stadium, with Ashley Phillips previously returning to Stoke on loan for the second year in a row.
Tottenham previously rejected several advances for Donley
It was reported last month that Spurs rejected several loan advances for Donley as Thomas Frank was keen to run the rule over him.
The Dane had an opportunity to watch the midfielder closely over the last few weeks, and he even decided to use the 19-year-old at left-back against Luton Town due to Destiny Udogie’s injury.
The youngster will be hoping to have a similar impact in the second tier this term as he did in League One last season, which may potentially open the door for him to challenge for a place in the Tottenham team next season.
