Huge new detail emerges on Heung-min Son’s move from Tottenham to LAFC

A new report has revealed that Heung-min Son’s move from Tottenham to LAFC will set a new record for the highest ever transfer fee paid by a Major League Soccer club.

While Heung-min Son confirmed last Friday that he will be leaving Tottenham, in what was a teary-eyed press conference, the forward did not reveal what his next destination will be.

However, it is fair to say that it has been an open secret all along, with reports widely indicating that LAFC are in advanced talks over a move to sign Heung-min Son.

The South Korean played his final game for Spurs in the Seoul World Cup Stadium against Newcastle on Sunday, and he is now expected to be announced as an LAFC player very soon.

How much will Tottenham earn from Heung-min Son’s sale?

It has now been reported by ESPN that LAFC will pay a fee of $26m (£19.5m) to Tottenham Hotspur for Son, which will make the Spurs legend a record signing for any club in the MLS.

The previous record deal was the $22m (£16.5m) fee that Atlanta United spent last winter to acquire forward Emmanuel Latte Lath from Middlesbrough.

The report adds that it is now only a matter of time before the 33-year-old is announced as an LAFC player, with the official unveiling expected to happen on Wednesday.

Spurs reduced their asking price to allow Son to join LAFC

According to reports, Spurs valued Son at £35m when Saudi Pro League clubs wanted him earlier this summer.

However, Tottenham decided to drop their asking price for Son to allow him to move to LAFC after the forward made it clear that he wants to join the Californian side.

Emotional tributes have been pouring in for Son from his Spurs teammates, with the 33-year-old leaving Tottenham as one of the club’s biggest modern-day legends.
