Tottenham appear to take dig at Nottingham Forest during Joao Palhinha announcement

While announcing Joao Palhinha’s arrival, Tottenham Hotspur appeared to take a dig at Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis after the Morgan Gibbs-White drama.

Just over a week ago, Gibbs-White decided to put pen to paper on a new contract at Nottingham Forest, with the development coming as a huge blow to the Lilywhites.

Just hours before the development, it was being reported by several sources that Gibbs-White remained keen to complete a move to Tottenham after the North Londoners met the player’s £60m release clause.

However, the Forest star had a change of heart, and Evangelos Marinakis appeared to take aim at Tottenham while announcing the midfielder’s decision to stay.

Tottenham seemingly take a dig back at Evangelos Marinakis

It was reported by The Daily Mail last week that even though Tottenham are in the Champions League, Marinakis felt that Gibbs-White would be taking a ‘backwards step’ by going to Spurs.

The Greek billionaire did not want the midfielder to join a club which finished 10 places and 27 points behind Forest, and lost twice to the Midlands club last season.

Spurs have seemingly referred to that claim in their video announcing Palhinha’s arrival, with the midfielder seen saying: “No backwards step” after moving to N17 from Bayern Munich.

What is expected of Joao Palhinha at Tottenham

According to reports, the expectation at Spurs is that Palhinha will be a regular in the starting eleven and be able to make an instant impact at the club.

It has also been claimed that Thomas Frank is delighted to have Palhinha on board, with the Dane seeing the 30-year-old as a good fit for his system.

However, this is not expected to be the last of Spurs’ summer signings, with reports indicating that Tottenham want to bring three more players through the door.
