More than 30 years after the release of the license’s last 2D game, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound makes a stunning comeback on various platforms. Fans of retro games will be thrilled to relive their childhood memories.

The world of video games is so vast that there are new surprises every week. And that’s certainly the case with the return of this cult franchise, which is back in 2D more than 30 years after Tecmo’s last similar title.

While the vast majority of video games today are made in 3D and offer graphics that are increasingly close to reality, some players have an unwavering love for the world of 2D. As a result, when a game is released in this format, it is generally very well received by a very knowledgeable audience.

This is the case with Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound. Released on July 31, 2025, it is developed by The Game Kitchen and is presented as a 100% arcade title with a difficulty level similar to that of the era. The principle of the game is relatively straightforward, as you have to defeat the demons on each level while avoiding the traps. You’ll also have to overcome various challenges along the way.

The characters you play are two ninjas. But be careful, because after a while they will merge, allowing you to take advantage of their combined attacks. Not to mention that if you eliminate special enemies, you can charge up “auras” that will help you unleash your power with the help of a special and devastating attack

The game’s universe will also take you back to your childhood, as Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is rendered in impressive animated pixel art. The game’s soundtrack is also high quality with a retro sound that will give you a real thrill during your battles against demons.

So, if you want to dive back into the world of 2D and play a hack and slash platformer rated 86% on Metacritic, you can find this game on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Series, PC, and Nintendo Switch. If you enjoy this type of gameplay, this game is definitely for you and will give you a real thrill.
