Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Confirmed for 2025 Release by Nintendo

After years of an unusually long and bumpy development cycle, Nintendo has reaffirmed that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is still on track for a 2025 release. The announcement comes via a press release confirming Nintendo’s presence at the upcoming Fan Expo Canada, where attendees will be among the first members of the public to go hands-on with the game. This news should help quell speculation among fans who were concerned about a potential delay into 2026.

Development on the game was first revealed in 2017, but was restarted two years later after the original project failed to meet Nintendo’s standards. Since then, fans have had to remain patient, turning to Metroid Dread and the remaster of Metroid Prime. Hopes were reignited last year with the debut of a gameplay trailer and a 2025 release window, but the lack of recent updates had reignited rumors of another delay.

A Playable Demo for All

The opportunity to experience Metroid Prime 4: Beyond at Fan Expo Canada marks a significant milestone—it’s the first time the public will be able to play the game. While a version of the demo was previously shown to media and select attendees during the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-launch tour, this event opens it up to a wider audience. The move not only signals Nintendo’s confidence in the game’s progress, but also gives fans a chance to judge for themselves how the long development has paid off.

Nintendo’s press release specifically states the game will be “available later in 2025,” which aligns with the company’s previously announced end-of-year release plans.

Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 releases for 2025

2025 is shaping up to be a big year for Nintendo’s latest hardware. The official lineup of upcoming titles for the Nintendo Switch 2 includes:

  • Drag x Drive – August 14
  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World – August 28
  • Pokémon Legends: Z-A – October 16

Meanwhile, Kirby Air Riders and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond remain undated but are expected to launch before the year’s end.
