Joao Palhinha wants to ‘win titles again’ with a familiar face at Tottenham

Joao Palhinha has admitted that he spoke to one Tottenham star before making the switch to North London and revealed that he is delighted to reunite with the player again.

Palhinha has joined Tottenham Hotspur on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy for €30m (£26m), with the 30-year-old set to shore up Thomas Frank’s midfield.

The Portugal international’s signing represents a departure from Tottenham’s transfer policy over the last few years, which has been primarily focused on recruiting young players with a high ceiling.

Frank is now getting a player who knows what it takes to succeed in the Premier League, and according to reports, the expectation at Spurs is that Palhinha will hit the ground running.

Palhinha will have one familiar face at Hotspur Way, with the midfielder having played alongside Pedro Porro at Sporting Lisbon before his move to Fulham.

Tottenham’s newest addition described Porro as one of the best right-backs in the world, and admitted that he wants to win titles alongside the Spaniard again as he did in Portugal.

When asked about reuniting with the 25-year-old, Palhinha told Tottenham’s official channel: “We played at Sporting together, we won the league there, we have great memories together.

“I told him when I spoke to him in the last few weeks that I hope to win titles again with him. For me, he’s a top player, one of the best right-backs as well, and I’m really motivated to win titles with him again.”

Palhinha believes Spurs can win silverware this season

Thomas Frank has said he wants Tottenham to be competitive in all four competitions, and the Dane’s newest addition sees no reason the club cannot win silverware.

Joao Palhinha has said that his aim is to win titles this season, with the Portuguese star insisting that Tottenham have the quality in their squad to do just that.

Having won trophies in Portugal and Germany, Frank will value the winning mentality that the 30-year-old will bring to Hotspur Way.
