Joao Palhinha has shed light on the role that Thomas Frank played in convincing him to swap the Allianz Arena for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.
Palhinha has now officially become Tottenham’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Mathys Tel, Kota Takai, and Mohammed Kudus.
According to reports, Thomas Frank was extremely keen on bringing Palhinha to Spurs, with the Dane identifying the midfielder as a perfect fit for his system.
The former Brentford head coach believes that the 30-year-old will add experience, quality, and intensity to the Tottenham midfield, and the new signing has now shed light on the role the Spurs boss played in his transfer.
Joao Palhinha opens up on Thomas Frank talks before Tottenham move
It has been reported by several sources this summer that Frank wants Tottenham to sign players with Premier League experience.
The Portuguese international certainly fits that bill, having enjoyed two outstanding seasons at Fulham before his move to the Allianz Arena last summer.
The former Cottagers star has now confessed that his conversation with Frank was key to his decision to come to N17.
Palhinha told Tottenham’s official channel: “The coach is probably the main thing that had an impact on my decision. When you feel that someone wants you, it means a lot to me, and when you feel this, I think you are much closer to making an easier decision.”
Palhinha reveals if it was difficult to swap Bayern for Spurs
Several reports over the last couple of weeks had indicated that Joao Palhinha preferred to stay at Bayern and fight for his place rather than heading out on loan to somewhere like Tottenham.
However, the 30-year-old has now rubbished those reports, insisting that Spurs did not have to try very hard to convince him to make a Premier League return.
He said regarding his decision to join Spurs: “I didn’t have to think too much to be honest, I just wanted to come.”
