Heung-min Son has given an emotional parting message to Tottenham fans as his 10-year spell at the club has now come to an end, and he reacted to the touching farewell he received in Seoul.
While it was always going to be an emotional moment when Son called time on his stay at Spurs, the South Korean could not have hoped for a better ending than the one he got.
The 33-year-old lifted the Europa League trophy in his final competitive game for the Lilywhites, and he wore the Tottenham shirt for the final time in front of a packed house in Seoul, being cheered on by the supporters who adore him.
The Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur players gave the forward a guard of honour when he was substituted, which shows the kind of respect that his peers have for him.
Heung-min Son admits it was a ‘perfect’ goodbye to Tottenham
As one would expect, the Tottenham legend was teary-eyed after the final whistle against Newcastle, and that was also the case in his final interview with the club’s official channel.
An emotional Son admitted that Spurs will always be in his heart for the rest of his life and that he will continue cheering on the club from a distance.
The South Korean told Spurs Play: “Look, this is the time to say goodbye to everyone. Probably you’ll never see me [again] on Spurs media, unfortunately. Maybe. Spurs will always be in my heart, and I will cheer you as a family member. All the best. All the best, guys.”
On his final game for Tottenham, he said: “It was a perfect moment. Sharing these beautiful moments is something that I will never forget and I will always appreciate it – from the fans, the players and the gaffer.”
Son thanks Thomas Frank for being on his side
The Tottenham legend may not have spent much time with Thomas Frank and his coaching staff, but he admitted that the Dane made things easy for him.
The forward revealed that the 51-year-old was happy for him to make any decision and confessed that he leaves with a lot of respect for the new Spurs boss.
Son said about Frank: “He understood my situation and was always on my side. He always listened to me and asked what I wanted to do. I have a huge respect and am very grateful.”
