Armed police swoop on rural area after ‘firearm’ sighting

Armed police swooped on a rural area after a possible sighting of a man carrying a firearm.

Officers were called to the Lewson Street area of Norton, near Faversham, after the alarm was raised.

A police helicopter was also seen circling the area after the reports emerged shortly after 12.30pm on Friday.

The force confirmed armed officers attended and found a group of people in an orchard.

Among them was a 19-year-old man in possession of a BB gun.

A police spokesman said: “The man was dealt with by way of a community resolution and warned about carrying such an item in public.

“The BB gun was subsequently seized for destruction.”
