A town’s 128th carnival has been hailed a “huge success” – with it this year honouring legendary horror actor Peter Cushing.
The event in Whitstable included a two-mile parade from Tankerton to the High Street.

This year’s theme was Star Wars and Dr Who star Peter Cushing, and an array of Daleks and other sci-fi costumes were shown off.
Chair of the Whitstable Carnival Committee, Aurelia De Rocha, told KMTV: “He used to live here, before he died.
“He was a very well-known Whitstable character, and you’d see him around the town if you’re old enough to remember him.”
Organisers described the event – which is in its 128th year – as a “huge success”.
The 55-year-old added: “It’s lovely, particularly this year, to see some of the stuff that the children have made – Daleks and things like that.

“It’s been really great. Just to see everyone happy and smiling is wonderful.
“We’ve got a whole group of volunteers who marshal for us. I think we’ve got 35 marshals this year, which is amazing.”
As well as the famous actor, the carnival also paid tribute to former carnival secretary Jane Bowell, who died last November aged 74.
Retired postman and committee member Christopher Stone, 72, said: “Jane was our secretary from 2018 to 2022.
“She was a very important part of the Whitstable carnival family.

“She was a stalwart of the carnival. Whenever she signed her official letters to anybody, the last word before she signed her own name was Hurrah.
“She loved horses, she loved the carnival, she was very artistic, she was a very good photographer and was very significant.”
