The half-time whistle has blown between Tottenham and Newcastle United in Spurs’ final pre-season match in Asia, and the player ratings are in.
Tottenham half-time player ratings vs Newcastle United
Antonin Kinsky – The young shotstopper came in for Vicario in this tie and he looked solid with the ball at his feet when Tottenham looked to play out from the back, but he would be disappointed to have been beaten at his near post. 6.
Pedro Porro – The Spaniard has been tucking in to help Tottenham build with a three, and should have defended better for Newcastle United’s first goal, as he allowed Harvey Barnes to cut inside before he let fly. He did, however, keep Nick Pope honest with a well-struck free-kick. 6.
Kevin Danso – The Austrian was really aggressive with his pressing high up the pitch in the Newcastle half, which led to the first goal from Brennan Johnson. 7.
Cristian Romero – Gordon has been causing a lot of trouble for the Tottenham defence. Romero and Danso often struggle to pick him up, the Argentine would need to get tighter on the Englishman. 7.
Ben Davies – The veteran full-back comes into the side in place of Djed Spence, and so far, Newcastle United have looked to target his side of the defence on the left. He has often been caught out of position, leaving Danso to cover for him and dragging the back line out of shape. 5.
Rodrigo Bentancur – Bentancur has been tasked with the responsibility of shielding the backline and also helping in Tottenham’s build-up play. He had a shot early on in the half after Sarr drew a save from Pope, but he pulled his strike wide. 7.
Archie Gray – The young Englishman has been given a slightly more advanced role in the middle of the park, and has looked to make runs beyond the Tottenham wingers into the half-spaces. He did create a chance with a cutback, but Pape Sarr could not finish it off. 7.
Pape Sarr – Has been really aggressive in his play, often helping with the pressing from the front, as he plays as the number ten in this clash. He had an early chance from a corner, but struck straight at Nick Pope. 7.
Brennan Johnson – A well-taken goal from the Welshman, who placed his shot from outside the box beautifully into the bottom right corner, albeit via a big deflection from Dan Burn. Moreover, since his opening goal, the wide forward has not been heavily involved in this tie. 7.
Mathys Tel – Has looked to work hard off the ball. Tel has also not been shy to drop deep and get involved in play. However, he spurned a golden opportunity after he found himself one-on-one with Pope, only to shoot directly at the Newcastle shot-stopper. 5.
Heung-min Son – In what is his tribute match, Heung-min Son has had a quiet outing so far – not really threatening the Newcastle defence. He has, however, looked to get in behind a few times, but has been flagged offside on multiple occasions. 6.
