BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Saturday was day three of the Games of Texas, highlighting sports such as archery and sand volleyball.
“Kids, I think the first time ever, looked like they got gold, and a little girl told me that she’s going to remember this moment for the rest of her life,” Activity Assistant Patrick Lewis excitedly said.
Competition was fierce, but fun was at the heart of each event.
For 14-year-old Kathryn Johnson, it marked a major accomplishment.
She first picked up a bow last summer while watching her brother do archery. It didn’t take long for her to start competing herself.
Today, she walked away with the gold in barebow archery.
“It’s very exciting,” said Kathryn.
Whether inside the range, or outside on the courts, amateur athletes from across Texas came together not just to compete, but to make lasting memories.
Added Patrick, “The competition, the buildup, this is where, you know, diamonds can be formed out of coal, and we want to provide the opportunity where they can become diamonds.”
The Games of Texas are set to end August 3.
