What Heung-min Son did behind the scenes to turn Tottenham’s campaign around last season

Alasdair Gold has now revealed that Heung-min Son did something behind the scenes at Tottenham last season that proved pivotal in the club turning their campaign around.

Heung-min Son declared himself a Tottenham legend after lifting the Europa League, and not a single Spurs fan would dispute that.

The forward deserved silverware more than anyone, having stuck with the Lilywhites through thick and thin, and he now leaves on a high, with the final in Bilbao set to be his last competitive game at Spurs.

While Son may not have started the Europa League final, his leadership had an important role to play in Tottenham getting their hands on a trophy.

Alasdair Gold reveals Heung-min Son led Tottenham meeting that sparked turnaround

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has now revealed that while Tottenham were going through a very difficult period last season due to injuries and poor results, the negativity threatened to seep into the camp.

That is when the Spurs captain called a meeting with the whole squad and stressed the need for the players to stick together.

Many at the club felt that Son showed ‘real leadership’ at the time by doing what he did, with his teammates seeing it as a defining moment last season as the meeting galvanised the team.

Son brought people together at Tottenham

Gold says that there have been several fractured squads at Spurs over the years, with cliques forming and arguments running deep.

However, it was during Son’s time as captain that the squad was most closely knit since the Mauricio Pochettino days, which the journalist says is a testament to the South Korean’s ability to bring people together.

Gold adds that even when the club was occasionally split into groups with the Spanish and French speakers, while English players did their own thing, Son would bounce between groups and thus helped gel the squad together.
